Maj. Carter:Janet Fraiser was an extraordinary person. She was kind and funny and talented. Above all, she was courageous. Try as I might I could not find the words to honor her, to do justice to her life. Thankfully I got some help. While words alone may not be enough, there are some names that might do. We often talk about those that give their lives in the service of their country, and while Janet Fraiser did just that, that's not what her life was about. The following are the names of the men and women who did not die in service, but who are in fact alive today because of Janet.

Do the memories really come out of your head once their put in the pensieve or is there still a trace of them in your brain?

Yes, the memory is still in your brain. When you take it out in thread form I believe it is just a kind of 'copy' that is Pensieve compatible, just like you can copy personal files onto a USB drive but still keep them in your regular computer folder. You wouldn't just forget a memory completely by inserting it into the Pensieve. You just collect them in the Pensieve if you have a 'full head' like Dumbledore refers to.

¿What´s a pensieve?

The pensieve is an object used to review memories. It has the appearance of a shallow stone basin, into which are carved runes and strange symbols. It is filled with a silvery substance that appears to be a cloud-like liquid/gas; the collected memories of people who have siphoned their recollections into it. Memories can then be viewed from a third-person point of view.
